New food bank and hub opened in Penicuik
Founder and Project Leader Mark Wells welcomed a small number of visitors, all adhering to the Covid-19 restrictions, to new Community Hub premises at 42 John Street Penicuik.
It was a time for celebration as well as time for some reflection when the local MSP, Michelle Ballantyne opened the new premises. Ms Ballantyne is Patron of the organisation, Foods Facts Friends which Mark founded. She said: “This new facility is a testament to all that has been achieved by Mark and his dedicated team.”
Town Crier ‘Mose’ acted as Master of Ceremonies, introducing all the speakers.
Mark told those in attendance the story of the foodbank operating from a container at the back of Kingdom Hall, then moving to St. Mungo’s Church Hall. He explained the support he received from the church throughout and thanked them for that.
In 2017 Food Facts Friends became a charity, and now this is the new chapter, expanding Mark’s community work into a community hub.
Mark thanked all the many supporters and volunteers who have helped by giving their time, talents and financial support to make this day possible.
