Hibs going to Parkhead ‘full of confidence’ says on-form midfielder Joe Newell

On-form midfielder Joe Newell says that Hibs are going to Parkhead ‘full of confidence’ after last week’s 2-2 draw with Rangers at Easter Road.

The players showed tremendous character to come back from 2-1 down to secure a share of the points against a very good Rangers side and Newell believes that having that belief is a huge requirement against the top teams.

Hibs travel to Glasgow knowing that a victory would see them leapfrog Celtic into second place and the midfielder is looking forward to his first appearance at the stadium.

He has been in fine form this season and is enjoying his role in the centre of midfield where he has been able to get forward and score goals.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference yesterday, Newell said: “We have had a good start. A few people had been saying that we hadn’t played any of the Old Firm yet as we had a good start to the season in terms of fixtures but we showed last week that we are a good team.

“We feel we should be up that side of the table and we go into the Celtic game full of confidence after last week.

“We are defending well as a unit and we hold our own going forward. I’m enjoying it and having a good run of games. I’m on the ball a bit more and I prefer that so hopefully I’ll stay injury free and stay in the team.

“You have to go in believing that you can get something form the game. The way we are playing at the moment, we are full of confidence. Rangers hadn’t conceded a goal so for us to score two and miss a couple of chances that we feel that could have gone in shows we have that side to us.

“Confidence is massive in sport let alone football so it’s important. It’s all about having that belief in yourself and your team mates and the coaching staff to set you up right.
