Ryan Porteous ‘honoured’ to be selected for Scotland Under-21 squad

Hibs’ highly rated young defender Ryan Porteous says that being selected for the Under-21 squad for the Group 4 head to head with Lithuania on Tuesday 8 September in Vilnius is an ‘honour.’

Scotland sit in third spot in their section, with two wins, two draws and one defeat from their five outings so far.

Porteous won a full Scotland call-up back in November for the double-header against Cyprus and Kazakhstan, but his campaign was cut short by injury.

Now back to full fitness, he’s making up for lost time alongside Paul Hanlon in the heart of the defence which has yet to concede a goal from open play this season.

He told the club website: “I feel like I say this all the time but it’s true. It’s always an honour to go away with Scotland, at any age level.

“I enjoy working with Scot and the rest of the staff. We’ve got a good squad and we’ll go there looking to win.

“Like every young Scottish player it’s obviously a big goal of mine to break into the full squad and it was good to get a taste of that last season. I think it just makes you even hungrier to get back there but I know that only comes from doing well week to week for Hibs.

“We’ve had a strong start to the season – as a defence and as a team – and we just need to keep pushing on to see how far we can take it.”
