Premiership football is back after four month break
Premiership football returns to Scotland today after a break of more than four months and the Edinburgh Reporter previews the opening weekend’s fixtures.
The season opens at Pittodrie where Aberdeen will face Rangers live on Sky Sports at 12.30pm this afternoon. The last Pittodrie meeting ended 2-2 in December 2019. Rangers are unbeaten in their last five Premiership games against Aberdeen.
At 3pm Hibernian entertain Kilmarnock at Easter Road. Hibs won the last meeting 2-1 at Rugby Park in February whilst the last Easter Road clash was a 2-2 draw in November 2019. Hibs finished seventh last season, one place above Kilmarnock.
Elsewhere Dundee United meet St Johnstone in a Tayside derby. United are playing their first Premiership game since 2015/16 and both clubs have new managers in Micky Mellon and Callum Davidson. Saints have won on three of their last four visits to Tannadice
St Mirren who retained their top-flight status with a 1-0 victory over Hearts in the last action before football was suspended meet Livingston who finished in the top 6. The last Paisley encounter was a 3-3 draw in December 2019 whilst Livingston won both games at the Tony Macaroni Arena last season. St Mirren’s last win in this fixture was 3-1 away in April 2019.
Champions Celtic face Hamilton Academical on Sunday live on Sky Sports at 4.30pm. Celtic beat Accies 1-0, 2-1 and 4-1 last season and have won the last 12 meetings between the teams. Hamilton’s last win in this fixture was 1-0 at Parkhead in October 2014.
Ross County meet Motherwell on Monday live on Sky Sports at 7.45pm. Motherwell won the last meeting 4-1 at Fir Park in March and were 2-1 winners on their last trip to Dingwall on Boxing Day.Motherwell finished third last season; Ross County were 10th
