Hibs sign Scotland Under-17 international Addie Handley

Versatile youngster and Scotland Under-17 international Addie Handley can’t wait for the season to start after joining Hibs Women from Boroughmuir Thistle FC.

A product of Boroughmuir’s academy, the new number 27, has impressed at senior level despite her young age.

After a successful spell with the SWPL 2 side’s Under-15s, in which she secured a National Performance Cup winners medal, Handley was promoted to the first team last season.

Her  versatility will give Head Coach Dean Gibson a new option in either midfield or at full-back, combining both athleticism and technical ability.

Handley said she’s raring to get started: “I’m really excited to sign for Hibernian and can’t wait for the new season to start.

“I played against Hibernian U23’s a few times last year for Boroughmuir Thistle and off the back of that I was invited to train with the first team in January.

“Dean knows what I can do on the pitch. I’m really looking forward to working with him and stepping up to the challenge of SWPL 1.

“Getting the opportunity to join such an experienced and talented team is incredible and I can’t wait to meet up with the squad.”

Gibson first encountered Handley whilst leading our Academy’s Under-23s side, and he was delighted to secure yet another signing ahead of the 2020/21 season, saying: “Addie is a player with massive potential.

“She was one I became aware of whilst working within the younger age groups and I am delighted she is now finally a Hibernian player.

“She is under no illusion at how hard she needs to work to get into the team but she’s ready to meet the challenge head-on. She will bring a great deal of flexibility and athleticism to the squad whilst also possessing great technical ability.

“For such a young player the confidence she shows is admirable. We are excited to progress Addie to the next stage of her career.”
