Hearts sign Langer on busy transfer deadline day
It’s been a
busy transfer deadline day at Tynecastle as manager Daniel Stendel continues to
rebuild his Hearts team.
Arriving in
Gorgie is German midfielder Marcel Langer. The 22-year-old has been released by
Bundesliga club Schalke 04 and was delighted to link up again with Stendel who
managed him at Hannover 96.
Langer told
the official Hearts website:
“It was not really a hard decision to make,” he said. “I like
adventures. It’s a new country, a new city and a new language. I’m looking
forward to it and I’m happy.
“When I played in the youths for Hannover 96 I worked with the manager
in the U19s. We were really successful. We won the U19s German Cup. It was a
good connection.”
“The manager called me before New Year’s Eve and yes, I was really
direct – I want to do this. Then we talked with Schalke and the club and now I
am here.
“I watched the highlights from the Rangers game and the atmosphere was
crazy.
“For sure, I’m looking forward to playing here in front of 18,000.
Normally we play in front of 5,000 in Germany so this is different. This is
nice.”
Another player hoping to be reunited with the Hearts manager is Barnsley
striker Mamadou Thiam although the Edinburgh Reporter understand talks are
still ongoing.
Heading out of Gorgie are veteran striker Steven MacLean and young
goalkeeper Kelby Mason who are going on loan to Raith Rovers and Edinburgh City
respectively. Former captain Christophe Berra is believed to be holding signing
talks with Championship side Dundee while striker Conor Washington has been
linked with English Championship side Stoke City.
