Fishing – McEwan second in Memorial event

Barry McEwan was second in the Margaret Chalmers Memorial sea fishing event at Usan Bay near Arbroath.

The carpet fitter from Port Seton landed six cod for 5.660kg using a cocktail including peeler crab and worm.

Barry, treasurer of the East Lothian-based Bass Rock Shore Angling League, was also second in the heaviest fish landed category with a specimen of 1.72kg.

Chris Horn from Fife won with 11 cod in a bag of 7.790kg and his father Mike, also from Fife, was third with 4.200kg.

The heaviest fish was a cod of 1.810kg caught by Keith Galloway. Conditions were not ideal for sea fishing with a calm sea and a heavy swell.

There was also a biting west wind which made it uncomfortable for the entrants.
