New Hearts manager Daniel Stendel has spoken of his delight at the reaction of his new charges at Tynecastle. Speaking to the official Hearts website, the new man in charge in Gorgie said he was very much looking forward to tomorrow’s Ladbrokes Premiership game against St Johnstone at Tynecastle:

“My first impression is that they want to learn and are open to new things. This, for me, is the biggest thing that we have players who want to improve.

“The mentality in training is good. We have tried to keep the main things in training in because in four days you cannot change it all, but I have a good feeling.

“The biggest thing we want to bring, to the fans behind us, is that we have power, not only with the eleven players on the pitch and all of the players in the squad, with the coaching staff and the supporters. I think that with our supporters and Tynecastle we have big power and that’s what we want to show on Saturday.

“We have respect for St Johnstone. For us, every game is a big game. We want to win and especially when we play at Tynecastle. We respect all the teams in this league but the main point for me is that we play our game.

“We looked, we prepared for the next team, this is tomorrow against St Johnstone, but the main view is our game. This is what we do tomorrow.

“Tomorrow is the first game and I hope we have a lot of support. Normally the experience of the coaching staff and the players who have told me a lot of things is when we have a home game and we play with passion and the right mentality then we can have so much more support from the fans, and this is what I expected.

“When we do this, when we play the way the supporters like, I think we have so much power to win the home games.”

Stendel explained that he will work with reserve coach Andy Kirk and goalkeeping coach Paul Gallacher but that Austin MacPhee, Jon Daly and Liam Fox will not be part of his first-team backroom staff.
