Dundee Stars skidded deeper into trouble as their recent form slump continued with a 4-2 home defeat to high-flying Belfast Giants.

The Elite League’s bottom club have now gone five league games without a win and are in danger of losing touch with the play-off chasing pack.

However, it took over 31 minutes to break the deadlock and then there were a flurry of goals.

Giants struck first through Brian Ward after 31 minutes and Drydn Dow levelled for the home side less than two minutes later with Jordan Cownie supplying the assist.

But Curtis Hamilton edged the visitors ahead after 36 minutes and Jordan Smotherman added a third 35 seconds from the end of the session.

It was 4-1 after 53 minutes thanks to Patryk Wronka but Dow bagged his and Dundee’s second 41 seconds later to keep them in the contest but the home side were unable to add to their total against a side in the top three.

Action this weekend sees Fife Flyers at league leaders Sheffield Steelers on Saturday with Glasgow Clan in Belfast on Sunday.

Also in action on Sunday are Fife who host Guildford Flames while struggling Dundee visit Coventry Blaze.
