SGB Championship, play-off, Grand Final, second-leg: Glasgow Tigers 50, Leicester Lions 40 (agg: 89-91)

Glasgow Tigers bid for the SGB Championship play-off title ended in disappointment as the ambitious West of Scotland side found the 12-point deficit from the first-leg in the Midlands too great a mountain to climb.

They came up two-points short despite winning the second-leg 50-40 but Lions, who also won the league, celebrated while Glasgow will have to wait another year.

Earlier, the sides shared 3-3 scorelines in the first three races but Lions, who were 12 points ahead after the first-leg in the Midlands, edged further in front.

A 4-2 in the fourth heat then a 3-3 in the next left Lions 16-14 ahead but a 5-1 for the home side courtesy of Craig Cook and Mikkel B Anderson put Tigers 19-17 ahead.

The next race was shared by Lions took Heat Eight 4-2 to level at 24-24 with time running out for Tigers.

A 3-3 in the ninth and tenth races increased the pressure on Cami Brown’s boys.

They now had five heats to overturn a 12-point deficit and Lions kept their cool to earn a 3-3 in the next race.

Claus Vissing (pictured with team manager Cami Brown) won Heat 12 with Kyle Bickley in third position for a 4-2 but the writing was on the wall with a ten-point gap to make up in three races.

But Tigers dug deep to win Heat 13 thanks to Rasmus Jensen with Cook in second spot to make the scoreline 42-36 and heap the pressure on Lions.

Tigers were on a 5-1 for the first two laps with Sam Jensen and Kyle Bickley out front but Ellis Perks passed them both to draw the second-last heat 3-3 to take the play-off title.

Skipper Cook and Vissing won the final race for a 50-40 scoreline on the night to finish agonisingly short.
