Autism football coming to Hibs’ Training Centre

The Hibernian Community Foundation and Team United will
launch the first ever partnership of its kind – starting with a session on
Tuesday 15 October at the Hibernian Training Centre from 3-5pm.

Players aged 9-15 who fancy representing Hibernian FC in a
new league should attend this session.

Team United is the Game Leader organisation for autism
football in Scotland and are working with Premiership and grassroots clubs
alike to help create autism teams.

They are a charity who aim to support young people with
disabilities overcome social barriers they often face when taking part in sport
and physical activity, particularly team sports.

Team United focus on supporting young people aged 8-16 years
with Autism but not exclusively and offer a range of sports or physical
activity and are always listening to young people so we can offer more
opportunities.

They offer young people the opportunity to take part in a
player pathway that offers a number of components and opportunities such as
weekly sports or activity instruction, social activities and an awards scheme
and social outings.

They also focus our attention on knowing as much as we can
about each of  our young people, we use
their chosen sport as the motivator to break down social barriers and get them
playing together as a team as well as listening to young people and allowing
them to be heard amongst their peer group. More importantly, being active and
enjoying taking part.

As they have trained and knowledgeable coaching and support
staff in every session, young people know their needs will be understood.

Their approach enables young people the opportunity to gain
confidence, connect with their team mates and celebrate their achievements in a
supported environment.

Registration is essential and should be done online via the
Hibernian Community Foundation website, or by emailing any enquiries to
alex@teamunited.org.uk.
