THE CENTRE LIVINGSTON IS SET TO BECOME THE UK’S FIRST MALL TO LAUNCH A REUSABLE PAPER CARRIER BAG FOR SHOPPERS TO HELP REDUCE PLASTIC POLLUTION

One of Scotland’s largest indoor shopping malls, The Centre Livingston, is set to become the first mall in the UK to provide shoppers with the option to buy a reusable paper carrier bag to help reduce plastic pollution.

The initiative responds to feedback from customers who want an alternative to plastic shopping bags.

The paper bag is recyclable, biodegradable, compostable, tear and water resistant and holds up to 16kgs in weight. They are also sustainably sourced and manufactured using 100% renewable energy, sending zero waste to landfill.

Patrick Robbertze, Centre Director at The Centre, Livingston said: “We are really excited to be launching our reusable paper carrier bag to help reduce the amount of plastic in the environment, which is in response to customer demand.

“As plastic pollution continues to be high up on everyone’s agenda we felt it was important to listen to our customers and offer them an alternative environmentally-friendly carrier bag.

“Introducing paper bags into the mall not only gives shoppers a choice and a solution if they visit without their own bags but also represents our shopping centre’s environmental policies.

“We’re absolutely delighted with the positive feedback we’ve already received from both our shoppers and retailers.”

The bags are available from the Customer Service Desk in the mall and cost 20p.
