Restaurant review – Pizza Express, Deanhaugh Street, Edinburgh
This restaurant, which is part of the national chain, occupies a prominent site in the atmospheric area of leafy, affluent, Stockbridge, one of Edinburgh’s prime locations.
It was once an old bank and now claims to be “one of the most gorgeous restaurants in Edinburgh”.
The restaurant spans two floors and has a Glass Room for hire which overlooks the Water of Leith as it meanders its way 35K from Colzium Springs in the Pentland Hills outside the Capital city to the sea at Leith.
The room provides a calming view of the river, incidentally the main river flowing through Edinburgh.
Other tables also have a view of the river which is tagged a silver thread in a ribbon of green.
It’s a busy place and the food is good. Service is slick and there is an outside terrace, again overlooking the river.
Our pizza arrived piping hot with oils – garlic and chilli – offered and the atmosphere is good.
I would not, however, choose to sit downstairs as it appeared a tad dark.
Toilets were clean but the restaurant is in need of some TLC as some of the fabric appeared frayed at the edges.
However, I’d go again as it is an ideal location near the city centre to chill and meet friends.
