Hibs’ charity hopes to bid for Lawrie Reilly’s medals
Hibs’ legend Lawrie Reilly’s League Championship medals will
be put up for sale this week and the Hibernian Historical Trust are hoping to bid
with a view to obtaining them and having them on display at Easter Road.
Arguably the greatest player in the Club’s history, Lawrie
Reilly holds the record for the most international caps won by a player while
at Easter Road.
The only one of the ‘Famous Five’ to support Hibs as a
schoolboy, he spent his entire career at Easter Road.
Reilly hung up his boots as Hibs top League goalscorer
tallying 187 goals, a record that is firmly held to this day.
The Trust – an Independent Charity, based in Easter Road
Stadium, was formed to protect, display and acquire Hibernian memorabilia.
One of its aims is to ensure that important artefacts are
secured, displayed and are available for the Hibernian family to see and
observe at the home of our Club. In the past, it has acquired a number of
important medals and awards for our collection, including the complete set of
medals won by Gordon Smith.
A number of generous supporters have pledged financial support to supplement the funds available.
The Trust believes that obtaining these medals and their
display at Easter Road is important for all Hibernian supporters rather than
them being purchased for a private collection, although this remains a
possibility.
The Auction will take place on the 22nd August at Thomson
Roddick’s Rosewell (Edinburgh) branch
