Edinburgh Monarchs hope skipper Ricky Wells (pictured) can maintain form for Wednesday’s (7.30pm) clash at SGB Championship pace-setters Leicester Lions.
New Zealand-born Wells top scored with 12 points as sixth-placed Peterborough Panthers lost 50-40 at home to current pace-setters Belle Vue Aces in the Premiership on Monday.
Leicester are five points clear of second-placed Glasgow Tigers at the top of the table with 27 points from 12 fixtures but the Scots have five matches in hand.
Misfiring Monarchs prop up the rest in the 11-strong table with only six points from seven outings.
Meanwhile, Berwick Bandits, who are second-bottom with seven points from seven meetings, travel to fourth-placed Somerset Rebels on Wednesday (7.30pm) who have 17 points from eight matches.
Manager Gary Flint’s Borders combine have been boosted by Berwick’s shock 50-40 home win over Leicester on Saturday.
Elsewhere, former Glasgow racer Chris Harris top scored for third-placed Ipswich Witches with 12 points in their 45-45 draw at Wolverhampton Wolves, who are fifth, on Monday in the Premiership.
And ex-Edinburgh rider Max Clegg top scored for Cradley with 12 points in their narrow 41-37 defeat at Kent in the National League.
Finally, Premiership side Swindon are set to recall Polish rider Tobiasz Musielak after an injury-hit season so far at the expense of French-born stand-in David Bellego, a former Glasgow and Berwick rider.
Swindon’s team manager Alun Rossiter said: “It was a tough decision because David has done nothing wrong.”
