Paul Heckingbottom disappointed not to get all three points against Stirling

Hibs’ Head Coach Paul Heckingbottom was disappointed not to take all three points in yesterday’s opening Betfred Cup game against Stirling Albion at Forthbank.

Despite dominating possession, Hibs went in at half-time with only a one goal lead thanks to a Scott Allan penalty to show for their efforts.

They had plenty of chances to wrap thing up before David Wilson equalised with a sensational 25-yard strike in the 69th minute.

Hibs continued to press forward and were unlucky not to win the game in time added on but the match finished 1-1.

Heckingbottom’s men subsequently won the penalty shoot out 5-4 with new keeper Chris Maxwell saving twice.

After the game Heckingbottom told Cliff Pike of Hibernian TV: “We should have had the game won by half-time but we didn’t and that’s the situation, things can go against you and they scored with their first shot on goal, not their first shot on target but their first shot on goal, they only had two all game and that shows that if you are not clinical at one end you can pay the price.

“We’ve been scoring goals in all of our pre-season games but I think we could have had seven or eight in some of these games and today was no different.

“When you are only one in front it makes the game difficult and the opposition have always got a chance, especially in a cup game.

“We wanted to win and are disappointed that we didn’t get
all three points but that is why the penalty shoot-out becomes important.

“We will have three tough days this week then have two
lighter days on Thursday and Friday when we can take the foot off the gas and
prepare for Saturday.”
