Heck’s tactical change ensures Betfred Cup victory for Hibs
Hibs’ Head Coach Paul
Heckingbottom revealed that his half time substitutions were tactical after a ‘sloppy’
first half against Alloa Athletic yesterday.
Florian Kamberi and Josh Campbell were replaced at the break
by Fraser Murray and Scott Allan, and both contributed to the subsequent 2-0
victory.
Murray’s sublime ball over the visitors’ defenders allowed
Christian Doidge to lob the keeper and put the side ahead, much to the relief
of the home fans.
Allan then dictated play and created several opportunities before Tom James (pictured) wrapped things up with six minutes remaining with a superb curling effort which flew into the ‘postage stamp’.
Hibs remain in third place in Group C of the Betfred Cup,
one point behind leaders Arbroath and level on points with Elgin City who have
played one game more.
Hibs face Arbroath on Tuesday night before making the trip
to Elgin next Friday so qualification is very much in their own hands.
After the game Heckingbottom said: “First half we were
sloppy and there were a couple of things I didn’t like. We had to change the
shape at half-time because they were sitting in and the shape we were playing
played into their hands.
“We had to get more width into the team in the second half.
We had 20-odd shots, 14 on target and only got two goals, so it’s similar (to
last week).
“We got two good goals and that will do the new boys the
world of good.”
