Edinburgh nursery closes temporarily
Bright Horizons Nursery in Corstorphine was closed yesterday afternoon after an incident there, and it remained closed today.
A spokesperson for the nursery said: “A child became seriously unwell at the nursery yesterday. As a matter of course the police attended along with other emergency services. This is very upsetting and our thoughts are focused on the child and the family at this difficult time.
“We are taking every possible action to find out what happened, and are co-operating fully with the authorities. The safety and wellbeing of the children in our care is our absolute priority.
“The nursery will be closed for a short time but in the meantime we have arranged for our families to be offered alternative care at neighbouring nurseries.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police in Edinburgh were contacted after a 1-year-old boy took unwell within a private nursery in the Corstorphine area of the city on Tuesday 9th July. “The child was taken to the Sick Kids Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.
“Inquiries into this matter are continuing.”
Bright Horizons Nursery is situated in the same building as David Lloyd but is run as a completely separate business.
