Vanecek Czechs out of Tynecastle
Six months ago, there was much hullabaloo in social media about
the imminent arrival at Tynecastle of Czech Republic striker David Vanecek. The
28-year-old striker had wanted to leave Teplice in his homeland last summer,
but the Czech top-flight side rejected Hearts offer meaning the player had to
wait until the January transfer window to move to Scotland. In fairness, much
of the hullabaloo came from the player himself…
Vanecek duly made his Hearts debut against Livingston in the
Scottish Cup but in his next appearance in maroon he was substituted by an
angry Craig Levein after just 34 minutes. The Hearts boss clearly felt Vanecek
had let the club down with his lack of fitness.
Today, Vanecek’s brief flirtation with Scottish football
ended when Hearts released the striker from his contract ‘by mutual consent’. His
number of appearances in a Hearts shirt didn’t even reach double figures.
In a statement on their official website Hearts said they wished Vanecek all the best. To paraphrase, he came, he saw, he conked out…
