Scoring debut for Alex Harris in Scottish Borders

Alex Harris made a scoring debut for Edinburgh City last night in the club’s 3-0 victory over Gala Fairydean Rovers at Netherdale in the Scottish Borders.

Gala’s iconic stand remained closed for health and safety
reasons but the spectators were able to watch from the sidelines in glorious
sunshine.

Gala’s new signing Danny Galbraith missed the game to do
holidays and Rovers fielded a much changed side from last season.

City dominated the game from the start but Gala defended
well before Jonny Court gave the visitors a deserved lead in the 34th
minute with a powerful strike into the bottom corner of the net.

Manager James McDonagh made multiple changes at half time,
including former Hibs’ winger Harris who wore the number 33 jersey.

Within minutes Harris demonstrated the skills which made him
a fans’ favourite at Easter Road and he could have won a penalty after beating three
defenders inside the area only to have his heels clipped. He chose to remain on
his feet however and the danger was cleared.

Harris had the ball in the net but the ‘goal’ was harshly
ruled out for offside when it appeared that he had timed his through run to
perfection.

With 13 minutes remaining, Harris’s sublime cross into the
box was turned in by Chris Kane to double City’s advantage.

Two minutes later Harris made it 3-0 with a fine strike to
secure victory and give the travelling supporters something to look forward to
this season.
