Ewan Macintyre Band’s ‘Road Junkie’ album tour coming to the capital
Music fans are in for a treat when the Ewan Macintyre Band’s Road Junkie Album tour comes to the capital for three shows in August.
The shows consist of an international music project, pushing
the boundaries of contemporary folk featuring Montreal cellist Karine Bouchard,
Moray fiddle player Peter Menzies and percussionist Alex Auldsmith with Ewan
Macintyre on vocals, guitar and mandolin.
Live shows are filled with rich string arrangements, ripping
solos, soaring harmonies and heartfelt lyrical content, bringing to mind the
celtic blues/ soul of artists Van Morrison, Paulo Nutini and Eddie Reader.
Led by the ex-lead singer of the award-winning Edinburgh collective
Southern Tenant Folk Union, Ewan Macintyre has a rare ability to pen songs in a
range of styles.
Like many Scottish artists, Ewan crossed the Atlantic to
develop his sound, earning his spurs through years of hard touring across Canada
and Europe. His recent album Road Junkie is a culmination of that work bringing
together some of the finest talent in Quebec, British Columbia and Scotland.
Ewan has been a self-employed artist since the age of 19,
working primarily as a musician, puppeteer, sculptor and builder. As a musician
and composer Ewan has worked in theatre, film solo and with band projects.
Highlights of his career include collaborating with Hidden
Orchestra for Big Man Walking (singing to crowds of over10,000 people on top of
cherry picker outside Holyrood Palace and again in
Glasgows George Square for Merchant City festival 2014) as well as supporting Hot House Flowers in 2013.
In 2015 he released
his first solo album “You Probably Look Better Naked Anyway” which was rated #3
in the Canadian National Folk Roots Charts, setting him on a mad journey
touring his band of troubadours across Canada and Europe.
Some albums, like hot baths on December evenings, let you
lower yourself into them and recline in utter comfort and satisfaction.
