Jenna’s delight at Hibs seventh successive cup win

International goalkeeper Jenna Fife has expressed her delight as Hibs retained the SWPL Cup on Friday evening with a penalty shoot-out win over Glasgow City at the Pennycars Stadium in Airdrie.

The victory not only represented the fourth year in a row that the team have won that particular trophy, but they have also won the past seven domestic cup competitions in succession. J

enna demonstrated her ability in the shoot-out win following a 0-0 draw, saving penalties from both Hayley Lauder and Clare Shine, whilst Siobhan Hunter, Rachael Small, Shannon McGregor and Cailin Michie all scoring to secure the trophy.

Speaking to Hibernian Ladies on Twitter, she said: “I’m obviously delighted. I thought the team were brilliant throughout the 120 minutes, from start to finish.

“City gave us another great game. It was quite tight and even throughout the whole match, defensively we were solid and kept them out so many times.

“I’m just delighted. It was great to save the two penalties as well.”

She also told Hibernian Media: “There were times where it was going against us, but we fought right to the end and were able to keep them out.

“To then go on and win it in the penalty shoot-out is fantastic.

“It never gets boring winning trophies. Hopefully we can go on and win the league and the Scottish Cup now, but, we’re just delighted to have won the SWPL Cup again for a fourth year.

“For us, it’s just about pushing on from here.

“It was really disappointing against Celtic last week, we all know that. The performance really wasn’t good enough and I think that mentally coming into this game we were in the right place.

“We bounced back brilliantly and we totally deserved to win this cup.”
