Former Glasgow Clan star Mike Hammond netted a leveller in the final period against Germany but the opposition scored two quick goals to secure three points.
Hit-man Hammond, now with Manchester Storm, said: “I thought we put in a battling performance and really took it to them, so we can be positive about many things.
“We are disappointed that we didn’t win but that shows our expectations have risen for sure.”
Canada also come into the game on a downer after a 3-1 defeat by Finland.
The 29-year-old centre ice from Brighton said: “It will be a massive challenge for us but the spirit in the camp is fantastic and we are ready for a huge test.”
