£50m injection for overnight trains from Scotland to London

The overnight train service has received a £50m cash injection and new carriages are now running between Scotland and London.

David Mundell, the Secretary of State for Scotland, welcomed the launch of the new Caledonian Sleeper service at Central Station in Glasgow.

The investment highlights the UK Government’s commitment to invest in infrastructure, safeguarding a prominent economic link between Scotland and England.

The Lowlander Service runs between London Euston and Glasgow Central or Edinburgh Waverley and this will be followed by the introduction on the Highlander route between London and Aberdeen, Inverness and Fort William in the near future.

Mr Mundell said: “It is fantastic to see the launch of the new Caledonian Sleeper service to improve the service for the thousands of passengers.”
