Women’s hockey – Judge praises title winning students
Sam Judge guided Edinburgh University to their fifth straight Division One title and said: “I could not be more proud.”
The students, who had never won the league title until five years ago, won 14 of their 18 games, drawing two, to pip Dundee Wanderers by three points.
And they wrapped up the title with a 9-1 demolition of Hillhead in Glasgow after being 6-0 ahead at the break.
Coach Judge said: “I could not be a prouder coach. The girls have had a lot of ups and downs this season and we came through as league champions.”
Their main rivals, league pace-setters Clydesdale Western, lost 2-1 at home to Dundee Wanderers.
Elsewhere, Western Wildcats edged Watsonians 2-1 and the Edinburgh club finished the season in fifth position.
Sixth-placed Grove Menzieshill thrashed bottom club Grange Edinburgh Ladies 8-0 leaving Grange with only one point from 18 league games.
