Men’s hockey – Grange in key home double-header

Title-chasing Grange entertain mid-table Hillhead (11.00) on Saturday and Clydesdale (13.30) on Sunday as they bid to retain their league title and keep their double dream alive.

The champions have won 12 of their 15 Division One matches so far and have drawn three for 39 points.

Hillhead are fifth with 21 points from six wins, three draws and six defeats.
They have scored 39 goals and conceded 36 while league pace-setting Grange have scored 58 and lost 17.

Elsewhere, Watsonians, who are eighth, entertain seventh-placed Clydesdale (Peffermill 13.00) and only two points separate the teams.

Watsonians have 17 points and Clydesdale 19 and the Edinburgh side have scored 32 goals against Clydesdale’s 27.

However, Watsonians have conceded 44 goals against 38 by the West of Scotland outfit.

Edinburgh University are in sixth position and coach Graham Moodie is keen to accumulate more points in a bid to move into the top four.

Grove Menzieshill provide the opposition and the Dundee side are third in the table with 32 points, 13 more than the students. Push-off is at 16.00 at Peffermill.

In Division Two, Inverleith face a crucial clash (push off 15.00, Edinburgh Academy) with Dunfermline Carnegie, their main rivals for a promotion spot.

They have climbed to second spot on 34 points, two ahead of Carnegie who beat them in the first game of the season.

Inverleith have scored 85 goals and Carnegie 69 but the Edinburgh club have let in 42 against the Fifers 31.
