The judging panel were particularly impressed that the University promoted diversity as a key value of the business, and with the University’s commitment to cultivate a diverse workforce with equal opportunities for all.

They said the University had made a clear contribution to social justice, equality and diversity through a myriad of activities and policies for students and staff.

Kerry said: “We’ve always been committed to equality and diversity, and known as a friendly, supportive university. Of course, culture change is a journey and our efforts will continue.”

Organisations and leaders were honoured across 16 categories at the glittering ceremony for their achievements during the past year.

Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce chief executive Liz McAreavey said: “I would like to extend huge congratulations to all winners and finalists, all of whom are truly inspirational and well deserving of the recognition. We are already looking forward to next year.”

The University’s commitment to inclusion was reinforced with a second award win on the same night.  Edinburgh Napier was named Scottish University of the Year at the Scottish Diversity Awards 2019 at the Trades Hall in Glasgow’s Merchant City.

The Scottish Diversity Awards 2019 aim to acknowledge those who believe in an inclusive and diverse Scotland and want to see the country as one of the most welcoming and multi-cultural countries in the world.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Diversity Awards 2019 said: “The awards provided a platform to showcase the great commitment of people and businesses that enhance our communities and raise awareness for the importance and the benefits of a diverse society.”
