Bonhams next Asian Art sale in Edinburgh will take place on Thursday 21 March at 11.00 at 22 Queen Street Edinburgh EH2.

Highlights of the sale include:

  • A Qing dynasty (1636-1912) huanghuali cabinet. The central pair of panel doors are heavily carved with a single dragon, bats and shou characters (indicating long life) amid clouds. Huanghuali is a tree that grows in China and is often used in Chinese woodworking.  Estimate: Ā£5,000-7,000
Georgia Williams valuer at Bonhams has a close look at a carved alabaster bust of Guanyin Late 19th Century Ā£500-Ā£600
  • A huanghuali ink palette and cover from the 18th/19th century. Estimate Ā£2,000-3,000.
  • A 19th century jade vase from a long-established Scottish collection. The body of the vase is carved to one side in relief with a crane beneath a flowering peach tree and to the other with a spotted deer beneath pine tree. Estimate: Ā£1,500-2,500
  • A large Satsuma vase by Kizan from the Meiji period (1868-1912). The piece is finely enamelled with two large panels of ladies and children on crossing bridges and in a garden.  Estimate: Ā£1,000-1,500

The Asian Art Sale itself takes place on Thursday 21 March at 22 Queen Street Edinburgh starting at 11 am.
