New chair appointed at Edinburgh Printmakers

Mungo Campbell has been appointed Chairperson of Edinburgh Printmakers as the arts charity prepares to move to Castle Mills in Fountainbridge

 

Acting Chair, Nicola Gordon, commented: “As the first open access print studio in the UK prepares to open one of the largest print studios in Europe, we’ve appointed the very experienced Mungo Campbell of The Hunterian in Glasgow to provide support to the team and lead the organisation at this time. Mungo will lead the Board of trustees of Edinburgh Printmakers, and welcome his personal passion for printmaking.”

Established in 1967 Edinburgh Printmakers continues to be one of the world leading printmaking organisations, in the new building at Castle Mills the remit of the organisation will grow to include a creative industries hub, café and second gallery space.

Mungo Campbell is Deputy Director of The Hunterian at the University of Glasgow.  Before moving to Glasgow in 1997 he worked at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery and in the Print Room at the National Gallery of Scotland.

From 1998 – 2003 he served on the Visual Art Committee of the Scottish Arts Council. He was also Chair of Visual Arts and Galleries Association Scotland from 2003 to 2007.  He was a Board member of the Scottish Museums Council (now Museums Galleries Scotland) from 2001 to 2007 and served on the Board of SCRAN from 2004 to 2006. He curated Allan Ramsay; portraits of the Enlightenment exhibition at The Hunterian in 2013 and has recently co-edited William Hunter and the Anatomy of the Modern Museum, accompanying a significant exhibition curated in collaboration with the Yale Center for British Art, to mark the tercentenary of William Hunter’s birth in 2018.
