“It’s always special to score against Celtic” says Flo Kamberi

Hibs’ striker Florian Kamberi dismissed suggestions that he saves his best performances for the big games despite scoring yet another superb goal against champions Celtic yesterday.

Kamberi was singled out by Neil Lennon’s assistant Garry Parker for his unusually lacklustre performance against St Mirren at Easter Road but he responded in the best possible fashion against the Hoops.

With Hibs leading 1-0 thanks to a wonder goal from Vykintas Slivka, Kamberi chested down a long ball from Sean Mackie before firing an unstoppable effort past Craig Gordon high into the net.

Speaking after the final whistle, Kamberi said: “It’s always special to score against Celtic. Against the big clubs it feels extra special. The coaches can say what they want, but I never lose my focus.

“It’s much more interesting now for people watching from outside. It’s not like Celtic are dominating and nobody cares about the others.

“It will be a tough season for everyone, anything could happen, everybody can beat everybody.

“Celtic of course are favourites, but that doesn’t mean anything, it’s the performance on the pitch that is relevant.

“I haven’t played against Rangers yet but they’re on a good run, Kilmarnock are also on a good run.

“Of course, if you look at past years and how Celtic were, then they are definitely the favourites. But nobody has to be scared of them.”
