Travel – fancy a weekend away to London with the family? – Here’s how to save money doing it

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) can help Scots save time and money with its Family Return Ticket.  Available now, families of six can travel from Edinburgh Waverley to London King’s Cross for as little as £159 – a saving of £195.

Helping families squeeze the most out of weekends away, the saving can be used to enjoy the city’s many attractions including:

  • Going ice skating on the Natural History Museum’s annual open-air ice rink
  • Visiting Madame Tussauds to see the Live Figures of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex
  • Attending a potion class at Cutter & Squidge’s secret School of Wizarding Alchemy, followed by afternoon tea paired with the potions you make

LNER’s family ticket could be good value

The Family Return ticket is the only dedicated family fare for east coast main line journeys, helping money-savvy families save an average of 54 per cent per journey.  As well as guaranteed seat reservations, faster journey times (with no unscheduled loo stops) and free Wi-Fi, families can also preorder delicious food and snacks from the Foodbar to keep hunger at bay.

Family fares are available on advance standard class return tickets for up to six people, including up to 2 adults and up to 4 children, for journeys between Edinburgh and London for £159

Suzanne Donnelly, Commercial Director at LNER, said: “We know how challenging family trips can be when there are traffic jams and chaos on the roads – travelling by train is a comfortable and stress-free way to get to where you’re going. We’re delighted to be the first operator on the east coast route to offer families a dedicated and money-saving ticket that makes it more affordable for them to enjoy some of the fantastic destinations, attractions and events on our network over half term and all year round.”
