Hibs aiming for third successive SSE Scottish Women’s Cup triumph

Hibernian face Motherwell in the SSE Scottish Women’s Cup Final this afternoon aiming to secure the trophy for a third successive time.

Captain Joelle Murray has urged the supporters of both clubs to turn out in numbers, believing it will be a great spectacle for the women’s game in this country.

Motherwell were in SWPL2 last season but won promotion back to the top flight and Murray insists that the Hibs’ players will not be treating their opponents lightly.

She told the club website: “We know a lot about the players at Motherwell. I played with Suzanne (Mulvey) at Hibs as well as a few of the other players as well, which is the same as a few of the other players in our squad too.

“Although we haven’t come up against them recently as a team, we all know what the players can bring individually into Sunday’s game.

“We’ll give them, as we always do for all our opponents, the respect that they deserve. They strolled the league that they were in and were very deserving of their promotion.

“We go into the game knowing that we need to focus and be at our best from the first minute to the last.

“It would be fantastic to win the trophy for a third year running. We have won it two years on the bounce so we want to go on and continue that vein of form on Sunday.

“It’s a new trophy and we certainly want to be the first club to have our name on it and the first team to get our hands on it.

“We’re really excited for the match. The new trophy is fantastic, the venue is incredible and steeped in history. We’re just excited for Sunday to come around, we’re all just eager for it to come around.

“Come along, it will be a great spectacle. For those that have come to women’s games they know what to expect and for those that haven’t then give it a chance because they certainly won’t be disappointed.”

The SSE Scottish Women’s Cup Final takes place on Sunday 4 November at Firhill Stadium and kicks off at 4:10pm. Tickets are priced at £5 for adults, £2 for concessions, with under-16s being admitted free of charge.
