Learn about taking your driving test

Learners drivers are invited to find out more about the process of taking their driving test at Edinburgh (Musselburgh) driving test centre on 8 September 2018.

Edinburgh is one of the first driving centres in the UK to be part of a pilot to better prepare learner drivers for taking their test and to give them a better understanding of what happens on the day.

Learners will be able to meet the examiners at their local driving test centre and will get the opportunity to ask any questions they might have about how their test will work.

DVSA will be demonstrating some of the changes to the driving test that happened in December 2017, including how the sat nav is positioned and used during the test.

DVSA Director of Operations North, Peter Hearn said: “DVSA’s priority is to help everyone through a lifetime of a safe driving.

“We know many learner drivers can be very nervous when they take their test and this can result in them making driving mistakes they wouldn’t normally make.

“I’d encourage anyone thinking about learning to drive to come along, to get a better understanding of what happens on the day. This should help reassure learners and let them concentrate on demonstrating they have the right skills and knowledge while driving.”

Driving instructors attending the open day will have the opportunity to meet some of the approved driving instructor enforcement team and find out more about the work they do carrying out standards checks.

The open day will run from 12pm to 3pm.
