Field hockey – students in penalty shootout

Their second string were edged 1-0 at Dundee Wanderers while the thirds beat Highland 1-0. CALA Edinburgh, from Division Two, beat Division One side Grange 1-0 but Erskine Stewart’s Melville Seconds lost 2-0 at Granite City.
Watsonians, however, romped through with an 11-goal win over Grove Menzieshill’s Seconds, with Nikki Stobie, Georgia Jones and Bethan Mann all hitting trebles.
Meanwhile, in the men’s cup, Murray Fotheringham and Stuart Hatton both claimed doubles as Inverleith booked a place in the next round of the Scottish Cup.
Alex Wilson, Charlie Jack and Jimmy Lynch-Small all scored in the 7-2 success in the Capital against their Highland opposition.
It was 2-0 at the break but Inverleith upped the tempo in the second session to run out comfortable winners.
Watsonians also march on thanks to an 8-1 home win over FMGM Monarchs.
Grange, the holders, and Edinburgh University both enjoyed byes in the first round.
