Ice hockey – Hand adds Steel to Racers

Murrayfield Racers have confirmed the signing of experienced former Edinburgh Capitals forward Jordan Steel.

The 28-year-old right-wing is considered a prize asset by Racers’ director of hockey, Tony Hand.

The Edinburgh-born player played seven games for Edinburgh Capitals’ Scottish National League (SNL) side last season, scoring five goals and setting up nine other strikes.

But Steel played nine seasons with Capitals, dressing in around 350 games in Britain’s top division, the Elite League (EL).

The former Scotland under-17 international has, however, been plagued with injuries during his career.

And he suffered a dislocated shoulder against Nottingham Panthers in 2015 which meant a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

That was a major disappointment for then coach Riley Emmerson who felt the home-bred player was having a great season.

Hand said: “Jordan is a quality player and he has been a constant fixture at Murrayfield for some time.

“We will need experienced players like him to help us in what will be a challenging inaugural season for us.”
