Hibs win Bobby Johnstone Memorial Cup with 10-0 win over Selkirk
A young Hibs’ side won the Bobby Johnstone Memorial Cup at Yarrow Park last night with a superb 10-0 victory over Selkirk.
Lewis Allan who hails from nearby Earlston scored a first half hat-trick before Sean Mackie added a couple to make the score 5-0.
Ruari Paton volleyed in at the near-post, before Allan scored his fourth goal of the game with a header.
Innes Murray made it 8-0 and Kevin Waugh completing the scoring with goals nine and ten in the dying minutes.
Selkirk goalkeeper Mathew Mackie was named ‘man of the match’
Bobby Johnstone’s daughter Nicola presented Hibs’ skipper Waugh with the trophy after the final whistle.
Bobby was a member of the legendry Hibs’ famous Five side that won three league titles. He also played for Manchester City where he became the first player to score in consecutive FA Cup finals,
Selkirk FC are currently raising money to build a statue in his memory.
Hibs face Tranent Juniors, on Monday 6 August at Forresters Park with a 6:45pm kick-off.
