Hibs announce minute’s silence ahead of European tie

Hibs have announced that a minute’s silence will be held ahead of tomorrow night’s Europa League qualifying round against Asteras Tripolis as a mark of respect to those who have died following the fires in Greece.

Players from both sides will also wear black armbands.

At least 74 people have been killed in wildfires in the Attica region around Athens, in Greece’s worst fire disaster in more than a decade however there are fears that the death toll could rise to 100.

Mati is located in the Rafina region which is popular with local tourists.

Hundreds of firefighters have been battling the fires and the authorities are seeking international assistance.

A fire brigade official confirmed the latest death toll.

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has declared three days of national mourning.

The club tweeted: “Our thoughts are with those who have suffered loss in the Greek wildfires. A minute’s silence will be held ahead of kick-off tomorrow night, and black armbands will be worn.”
