Speedway – Pijper gearing up for comeback

Theo Pijper is revving-up for his comeback with Berwick Bandits on Saturday (7pm) against Newcastle Diamonds in the SGB Championship.

The former Glasgow Tigers and Edinburgh Monarchs racer has replaced John Lindman.

Scott Courtney, Bandits’ team manager, hopes that the experienced Dutch rider can generate the same consistency as he did two years ago when he was a heat leader.

Courtney said: “Tough decisions had to be made for the good of the club and we hope this move will add even more firepower to an already impressive KLS Bandits side.”

Glasgow Tigers track at Workington Comets on Saturday (7pm) desperate for a result in their final Championship Shield clash.

A win or draw would see ambitious Tigers retain their place at the top of the Borders Group.

Tigers have 11 points from their five fixtures while Comets are a point behind after four meetings.

The Glasgow side are, however, still trying to recover after being elbowed out of the Knockout Cup in the first round by Edinburgh Monarchs.

Glasgow hope to be at full strength for the tie and are keeping their fingers crossed that Chris Harris and Paul Starke came through Friday’s home joust with Scunthorpe Scorpions in the Championship unscathed.
The experienced pair are still feeling the effects of recent crashes.
