27 year-old solicitor Emma Guthrie has been appointed one of the most senior Girlguiding volunteers.

Emma, who originally comes from Falkirk will be Assistant Chief Guide and will help  Chief Guide Amanda Medler to lead the 100,000 volunteers across the UK. She has been involved in the organisation since joining the Brownies  and knows about their ethos of being an inspiring, inclusive and empowering charity organisation. Since joining she has led a Senior Section (Rangers) Unit of girls and young women aged 14-25, trained others as leaders and represented the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts on the world stage as a United Nations delegate.

Emma said: “I am honoured to take up the role of Assistant Chief Guide. I am passionate about our organisation and know the ability it has to empower, inspire and change the lives of girls and young women. I am excited to continue spreading that message and to meet more of our dedicated and inspiring volunteers and members.”

Amanda Medler said: “I’m delighted to welcome Emma on board as Assistant Chief Guide. She has packed so much into her decade years of guiding including representing us internationally.

“Emma is a true advocate for girls and young womaen and aworks so hard at passionate and committed volunteer involved in all levels of guiding that she’s been involved in, despite also having aa hectic professional schedule at work, and. we know she will inspire so many young womenI know she will be an inspiration to girls and young women as well as to our volunteers.”  to be the change they want to see in the world.”

Emma’s appointment comes at an exciting time for Girlguiding. Later this summer, the charity will unveil over 800 new badges and activities designed to equip over 400,000 girls and young women with the skills and experiences they will need to thrive, succeed, make change and be happy in the modern world.

The revamp and modernisation of the programme of activities and badges is the biggest ever overhaul programme change in the charity’s history and covers all that girls and young women do in Girlguiding from the ages of five to 18.
