Edinburgh International Film Festival 2018 – George Michael: Freedom – Director’s Cut

The director’s cut of the documentary George Michael: Freedom will have its UK Premiere on Monday 25th June 2018 as part of EIFF 2018.

The widely praised feature-length film first aired on Channel 4 in October 2017 to coincide with the reissue of Listen Without Prejudice Vol.1. This extended version of the moving and absorbing documentary about the life and music of George Michael makes for memorable viewing. Narrated by Michael, the director’s cut features more of his unseen and private footage as it charts his rise from young pop star with Wham! to worldwide success and his infamous High Court battle with his record label.

The original version was completed prior to Michael’s sudden death in late 2016 and subsequently edited for the TV special on Channel 4.

Directed by George Michael and David Austin, Freedom: George Michael Director’s Cut features a cast of contributors including Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Liam Gallagher, Tony Bennett, Nile Rodgers, Mark Ronson, Mary J Blige, Kate Moss, Tracey Emin, Ricky Gervais and James Corden.

Although only told from one side, George Michael’s honesty, intelligence and talent shines through. A powerful tribute to a great musician.

George Michael: Freedom – Director’s Cut is showing on Monday 25th June 2018 at 8.45pm at Cineworld and on Tuesday 26th June 2018 at 6.00pm at Vue Omni.
