Cricket – Scots on verge of trophy win
Scotland could win the Tri Nations T20 trophy if they beat hosts The Netherlands in the final fixture of the event on Wednesday.
Kyle Coetzer’s side scored 161 for the loss of only three wickets to beat The Netherlands by seven wickets in the T20 clash in Holland.
That’s after the Dutch side won the toss and elected to bat.
Openers Tobias Visee and Max O’Dowd scored freely at the start of their innings, hitting a succession of boundaries.
Mark Watt slowed the scoring down and bowled Visee for 25 while Richie Berrington had O’Dowd caught at short-leg for 31.
Wesley Barresi hit 53 from 51 balls to register his fourth T20 half-century. He was unbeaten at the end.
Alasdair Evans accounted for Ben Cooper for 22 runs and Sikander Zulfiqar for eight to restrict their opponents to 160 for six wickets.
Then in-form George Munsey and captain Coetzer raced to 50 in 3.3 overs.
Coetzer was caught at cover off the bowling of Fred Klaassen for 42 from 20 deliveries and Munsey fell for 46 from 29 balls.
Calum MacLeod was bowled by Pieter Seelaar for 14 but Berrington hit an unbeaten 49 and Dylan Budge was not out nine to guide Scotland home.
Coetzer’s men are currently behind second-placed Ireland on net run rate and one point behind the Netherlands however if they can beat the hosts again then they will take home the silverware.
