Women’s hockey – Judge wants Europe boost

Sam Judge has guided Edinburgh University to the Division One title and the Scottish Cup.

Now she wants to go into Europe later this month by continuing their domestic dominance by winning the play-off title.

They host city rivals Watsonians at Peffermill in the play-off semi-final on Saturday and Judge’s squad are overwhelming favourites to reach the Grand Final.

Watsonians are up for the challenge but Edinburgh are on a high after come from 1-0 down to successfully defending the Scottish Cup with a 4-1 victory over Grove Menziehill at Glasgow’s National Hockey Centre on Sunday.

The other play-off semi-final features Clydesdale Western at home to Grove Menzieshill at Glasgow’s National Hockey Centre.

In the promotion/relegation play-offs eighth-placed Hillhead host Grange Edinburgh Ladies, who finished ninth, at Upper Windyedge.

Glasgow High Kelvinside (GHK) are at home to promotion-chasing Inverleith at Anniesland.

GHK were seventh in Division One while Inverleith were second in Division Two, two points behind title winners Glasgow University Women’s Hockey Club.
