Men’s hockey – Grange hit four in Europe

Scottish double-winners Grange on Sunday face Pool A pace-setters HC Minsk from Belarus in a key clash in Pool A of the EuroHockey Club Trophy in Vienna, Austria.

The Scottish Cup and Division One winners now have six points from their two games and trail HC Minsk by four points after beating Polish combine KS AZS AWF Posnan 4-0 on Saturday.

HC Minsk side beat SC Stroitel Brest, also from Belarus, 4-2 in their second game.

SC Stroitel Brest, who edged Grange 2-1 on Friday in their opening clash, are third in the four-strong group also with six points but an inferior goal difference of minus one against Grange’s plus three.

Two of Grange’s goals against the Polish side came from set-pieces and the others from open play, and they arrived in spells.

It took the Edinburgh side 29 minutes to break through, Michael McKenzie slotting home from a penalty corner.

And Irish-born striker Frank Ryan claimed the second five minutes later from open play.

Scotland indoor international Callum Milne added No 3 after 50 minutes to ease the pressure and Callum McKenzie added the fourth eight minutes later.

The Polish side are bottom of the table with one point from their two matches.
