Division One (men): Hillhead 2, Edinburgh University 2

Edinburgh University are thinking what might have been as they led 2-0 going into the last ten minutes of their crucial Division One basement clash at Hillhead.

Goals by Jack Jamieson and Kevin Wong looked to have set them up for a huge win on Thursday.

But Hillhead took heart from a penalty corner goal and slotted the leveller after a defensive lapse by the students inside the final two minutes.

Earlier, the visitors had played some good hockey to move into the lead but failed to get over the finishing line, an Achilles heel this season.

The university side now host league pace-setters Bromac Kelburne at Peffermill on Saturday (4pm) and then travel to Clydesdale on Sunday (3pm).

The Sunday game is one they have targeted as the West of Scotland outfit are fifth in the table with 18 points from 15 games.

The students are sixth with 16 points from 15 fixtures, the same points as seventh-placed Hillhead who have also played 15 games but who have an inferior goal difference.

Behind them in eighth position are Uddingston with 14 points from 15 starts and Dundee Wanderers are second-bottom with 14 points from 15 games.

Inverleith are cast adrift at the bottom with five points from 16 games and are already relegated.
