Edinburgh Capitals co-coach Michael D’Orazio is a straight talker. He also has high values.

And he was outspoken in his criticism of the delay in calling off Wednesday night’s scheduled Elite League at Kirkcaldy between Fife Flyers and Edinburgh Capitals.

The press release confirming the postponement arrived at 3.18 on Wednesday.

A red alert had been issued by the authorities hours earlier and D’Orazio went onto Twitter to urge both managements to cancel the fixture.

He claimed that to continue with it was a total disregard to people’s well-being.

And the Canadian defenceman said: “Hockey is only a game. Lives matter more.”
I couldn’t agree more.

Now, the playcaller is concentrated on another issue. How to earn points at Coventry Blaze on Saturday and at home to Dundee Stars on Sunday.

Bottom-club Capitals could now have a big say on who grabs the eighth and final play-off spot.

Currently, Coventry are ninth and Dundee tenth in the 12-strong league and both are chasing Braehead Clan who occupy the eighth and final play-off position.

Capitals were out of contention some time ago but they recently beat high-flying Belfast Giants in Northern Ireland.

And D’Orazio believes his injury-hit squad still has the ability to cause a few shocks in the run in.
