Barry McGuigan has sparked a global search for a suitable opponent as he fast-rising charts Prestonpans puncher Josh Taylor towards a world title shot.

The Tartan Tornado ripped stand-in opponent Winston Campos apart inside three rounds at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow on Saturday in his defence of the WBC super silver lightweight title.

And three of the four world title versions are now vacant.

Southpaw Taylor’s first shot sapped the confidence from the man from Nicaragua and Cyclone Promotions boss McGuigan said: “Josh threatens you, he makes you fret by literally standing in front of you.

“That’s because of his fast feet and steps up on top of you. He is such a spiteful puncher.”

He added: “Josh is the real McKoy. There are very few kids in the world that can match him with skill and speed.

“He has a good chin however I don’t want him to get hit. He got hit a few more times than I would have liked in the (Miguel) Vazquez fight (at Ingliston in November).

“But when he (Josh) turns it on he is really special.”

McGuigan, a former world champion, added: “Josh is right in the position to fight for any of the titles.

“He is world ranked at all the governing bodies but we’ll have a wee look over the next couple of months and make a decision after that.

“We want him to get out again in two or three months’ time and we will be breathing down the neck of a world title.”

Meanwhile, it was an unhappy night for Haddington middleweight Iain Trotter who lost his first professional fight.

Glasgow’s Marc Kerr recorded a TKO victory in round three in the joust for the vacant Scottish Area middleweight title.
