Hibs’ fans hail Neil Lennon after ‘outstanding’ victory over Aberdeen

When the final whistle blew at Easter Road yesterday, three and half sides of the stadium were singing ‘There’s only one Neil Lennon’ recognising the contribution that the Northern Irishman has made since taking over at the club.

Three successive victories in the league is commendable, but it is the performances that have the fans in such high spirits.

After a memorable win at Ibrox two weeks ago, some thought that the team would have problems coping with Aberdeen who are challenging Celtic for the title.

With rivals Hearts facing bottom of the table Ross County, many fans of both teams believed that the gap between fourth and fifth could be reduced however it was increased to nine points.

Instead, Hearts drew 1-1 in Dingwall whilst Hibs produced their best performance of the season to destroy Aberdeen and the 2-0 scoreline could easily have been much greater.

After the game Lennon told BBC Scotland:”I thought we were outstanding against a very good side who came into the game in real form,” he said.

“I was delighted for Martin Boyle, who has had a wee mental block against Aberdeen because he is an Aberdeen boy, but he was excellent and got his goal.

“We are in good form and they played some great football and it is a wee bonus for us.

“We are in a good place just now and we just need to maintain that now.”

Normally a manager concentrates n his own players’ shortcomings when describing a defeat but Dons’ boss Derek McInnes was full of praise for Hibs’ performance.

He said: “Even though the score was 2-0, we got murdered today.

“I didn’t think we did that enough, which is unusual for us. We were lucky to get away with two.

“We murdered Hibs at Pittodrie 4-1 and that for me today was similar. Hibs put their revenge on us and thoroughly deserved it.”
