Ice hockey – Khristich quits Capitals

Edinburgh Capitals and their head coach Dmitri Khristich have parted company.

The Ukrainian-born former National Hockey League player replaced Michael Dobron.

And he was charged with getting the club to the play-offs.

Khristich believes his decision to leave may revitalise the club.

The coach said: “This is a results business and, right now, the results speak for themselves.

“I’ve been involved in hockey for a long time and I know that sometimes a new approach can kick-start a team.”

He added: “I’m hoping my departure will help the club to improve its fortunes during the remainder of the season.”

Edinburgh are currently bottom of the 12-strong Elite League with only three wins in 24 games.

Captain Mike D’Orazio has agreed to join assistant coach Jock Hay in guiding the Capitals. They will share coaching duties.
