Ice hockey – Capitals host clan after Fife goal blitz
Elite League: Fife Flyers 10, Edinburgh Capitals 1; Braehead Clan 3, Belfast Giants 2; Elite League: Manchester Storm 4, Dundee Stars 0
Edinburgh Capitals host Braehead Clan on Wednesday (face-off 7.30pm) only 24 hours after being beaten 10-1 at Kirkcaldy in the Elite League.
Shayne Stockton netted a treble and Danick Gauthier and Chase Schaber claimed doubles with Ian Young, Peter LeBlanc and Liam Heelis joining in the blitz.
Dylan Anderson claimed Capitals consolation which arrived on the power play after 32 minutes.
By then, Flyers had netted six times and they claimed four other strikes after that.
Carlo Finucci was also influential with four assists as Flyers dominated the game.
They fired a total of 32 shots on Pavel Shegalo and his back-up Jordan McLaughlin while Fife’s No 1 Andy Iles and Jordan Marr dealt with 16 between them.
Misfiring Capitals have lost their last eight games and have now won only three of 26 league fixtures. They are cast adrift at the bottom of the 12-strong table.
In Glasgow, Cameron Burt’s power play goal set up by Brendan Brooks and Tyler Shattock after 52 minutes proved the game-winner as Braehead Clan snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 3-2 win over second-top Belfast Giants.
Shattock after seven minutes and Tyler Scofield with one second left of the opening period handed Clan a 2-0 lead.
John Kurtz made 2-1 with 46 seconds left in the second session but Jonathan Ferland levelled with Kurtz assisting after 45 minutes before Burt claimed the winner.
And in Manchester, Matt Beca fired a glory treble as Manchester Storm shutout lowly Dundee Stars 4-0 in the North-West of England.
Dallas Ehrhardt fired the home side ahead after five minutes on the power play.
And Stars kept the scoreline the same until 1min 46sec of the middles session when Beca opened his account.
He was assisted by another former Braehead Clan player, Scott Pitt, and Beca netted two more goals near the end of the session.
He slotted No 3 with Pitt and Mike Hammond assisting after 35 minutes and completed the scoring for Ryan Finnerty’s side only 50 seconds later with Pitt and Hammond assisting.
Craig Holland was between the pipes for Stars and he had 41 shots to deal with. Mike Clemente had only 21 shots to save during the game.
