Ice hockey – Capitals skipper calls for supreme effort
Michael D’Orazio believes Edinburgh Capitals shock win at Belfast Giants earlier this season proves the squad has talent.
That 6-4 Challenge Cup victory on September 30 remains a stand-out success for the team who currently prop up the 12-strong Elite League table.
However, the captain, who is now joint coach with club stalwart Jock Hay, says Capitals can achieve further success if the squad concentrates for a full 60 minutes in EVERY game.
Belfast are Saturday’s opponents at Murrayfield and remember face-off is at 5.45pm.
The Northern Irish team have visited Scotland’s Capital only once before this term in the league, earning a narrow 4-3 win.
D’Orazio wants to see the effort put in that night replicated on Saturday.
And the defenceman recalled that Giants only emerged 6-5 winners at Murrayfield in the first Challenge Cup clash in mid-September.
A lot has changed since then however and D’Orazio and Hay stress that only the players can earn the points to move the club off the bottom of the pile.
D’Orazio urged fans to get behind the new coaching regime and declared: “We must believe in each other if we are going to win more games.”
